Bernardine Franciscan Sisters welcome you to our web site and to our vibrant Franciscan community. We hope you will get to know more about who we are and join with us in our lives of prayer and in our mission. Travel with us to discover your passion in life!

Our community is founded on the ideals of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi and their followers – ideals we believe are as precious now as they have ever been.  As a faith-filled community rooted in contemplation and Gospel values, we strive to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to all we meet and especially to those who suffer from poverty and oppression.

Ebola Relief Fund - Liberia

“Oh Lord, make me an instrument of your Peace.  Where there is despair, let me bring Hope. Where there is darkness, let there be Light.  Where there is sadness, let there be Joy.
Prayer of Saint Francis

At the end of August, 2014, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters initiated a campaign to provide urgently needed resources to Liberia to help stop the spread of the Deadly Ebola Virus.  The Ebola Pandemic continues to take a tremendous toll on the people, the economy, the missionaries, and the health care workers in West Africa.

To date (October 1, 2014), with the prayers and generous support of friends, organizations, and Foundations, we have exceeded our Emergency Ebola Relief campaign goal of $150,000.00.  We have also received and sent over $2 Million worth of donated medical supplies.

Thanks to you- we were able to take immediate action and have shipped 4 containers filled with PPE kits, face shields, Infra red thermometers, gloves, medicine, and additional supplies both medical and basic to our missionary team in Liberia, which has been the epicenter of this disease.

Bless you, dear friends, for your compassionate hearts and swift action to save lives!  You have truly been “instruments of His peace”.

We are still accepting financial assistance for Sister Mary Laurene Browne, OSF and Sister Barbara Brillant, FMM who continue to train our missionary team to staff the Catholic Clinics and provide awareness, education, and life saving supplies to the people of Liberia.  There are many critical items that can finally be purchased in Liberia and this will also help the failing economy.   The need is so great, and the task at hand, overwhelming.  Please pray for the continued strength and safety of our Sisters and our team.

Trusting in Divine Providence, we journey in faith and joy, sister and servant to all.

We are called by God to live the Gospel and profess public vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, living a life of contemplative prayer and active ministry in a common fraternity.

We welcome all as brother and sister. Faithful to the Church and to our charism, we seek justice, peace and reconciliation, especially as we work with and in behalf of the poor.
