Declaration of the 18th General Chapter

A Renewed Commitment to Mission and Service

At the 18th General Chapter, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters gather in reflection, prayer, and discernment to reaffirm their mission in today’s world. Grounded in faith and guided by their enduring values, this declaration serves as both a statement of identity and a call to action for the future.

At the heart of this moment is a shared commitment to live with purpose, respond to global challenges, and remain faithful to the spirit of their founding mission.

Declaration

We, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, summoned by God to reimagine our charism and mission, trusting in Divine Providence, strengthener by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by the life and legacy of Mother Veronica Grzedowska are called to:

Dedicate ourselves to care of the earth and care of the poor;

Commit to Global Fraternity and deepen intercultural relationships;

Work to eliminate social inequality, discrimination and a culture of privilege;

Optimize our human and financial resources and simplify our lifestyle.

Living the Declaration

This declaration reflects a forward-looking vision rooted in compassion, justice, and stewardship. It highlights a commitment not only to spiritual growth, but also to meaningful action—addressing the needs of communities, fostering unity across cultures, and promoting equity in all aspects of life.

Through these commitments, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters continue to embody a mission that is both timeless and responsive, grounded in faith while actively engaging with the realities of the present day.
