Giving Opportunities
To meet the needs of our donors who span generations and have different levels of means, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters have several ways of giving.
List of Services
-
Donor-Advised FundsList Item 1
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) offers an immediate tax benefit while giving you a flexible way to support causes you care about, including the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters. If you have a DAF, designating a gift to the Sisters is simple — contact your fund administrator to recommend a grant.
-
Stocks and BondsList Item 2
Gifts of long-term, appreciated stocks and bonds can provide a two-fold tax advantage: donors may be eligible for both a charitable tax deduction for the value of the securities on the day of transfer, and they may not be responsible for taxes on any gains from the time the stock was acquired. Please contact our Development Office, 484-334-6815, for transfer instructions and more information.
-
Charitable IRA TransfersList Item 3
Donors age 70½ or older may transfer up to a qualifying amount each year directly from a traditional IRA to a qualified charity like the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters. Known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), this gift may satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution and can reduce your taxable income even if you don't itemize deductions.

Bequests and Planned GivingList Item 4
Remembering the Sisters in your will or a revocable trust is a wonderful way to keep alive your values while at the same time supporting the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters. A bequest may be particularly attractive if you are unable to make a current gift but would like to make a future gift. You may bequeath a specific dollar amount, a specific asset, a fixed percentage, or the residue of your estate. We encourage donors to work with an attorney or financial advisor when including a bequest in their estate plans. Our Development Office is happy to provide any information your advisor may need to facilitate your gift.
-
Gifts through a Life Insurance Policy or Retirement Plan
A simple way to make a significant future gift is to name the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters as the beneficiary to receive all, or a portion of, a life insurance policy or a retirement plan no longer needed for its original purpose.
If you have designated the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters as a beneficiary, we kindly ask that you notify our Development Office. This thoughtful step helps us plan wisely for the future and allows us to thank you personally for your generosity
